Buyer's Guide---How to choose the right concrete diamond saw blade
Date: 2019-01-02    View: 2596    Burst: Tony Chiang

When you want to buy a diamond saw blade for cutting concrete and search on the internet, we will find myriad blade options, at different price range, cutting target or welding method. If you don’t know much or want to know more about “concrete saw”, we hope this guide could help you.

In order to achieve optimum cutting performance, follow these four steps below before buying a concrete diamond saw blade:

Step 1: Main kinds of diamond saw blade and know more about your target saw.

When you want to buy a concrete saw, make sure your cutting target at first. Here below the most two popular kinds of diamond saw in the market.

-Laser-welding diamond saw, by using high power lasers, fusing the bottom side of segment and edge of steel core into one. When the cutting target is reinforced concrete or asphalt, we recommend you to use laser-welding diamond saw. Compare with the normal diamond blade on cutting reinforced concrete, whenever the saw touch the rebar, torsion of segment will rise sharply so that causes the segment broken. When the target is asphalt, super-hot asphalt will fuse the welding material to cause the segment broken. The all problems above won't happen to laser-welding blade because the segment and steel core have become into one.

-High-frequency-welding diamond saw, by using high-frequency welding machine to heat the welding material until it fuses in order to connect the segment and steel core. When the cutting target is green concrete or concrete with less rebar, we recommend you to use high-frequency-welding diamond saw. In the premise of the quality, it should reduce the cost with largest limit.

After knowing difference of diamond saw, you are able to choose the saw in your case.

Step 2: composition of diamond saw and how does it work.

Here below three composition of diamond saw:

---Steel blank, a steel disc, with segmented rim that holds the segments.

---Segment, working part of cutting, mainly composed by diamonds and metal powder.

Diamond, cuts by the sharp corners, the quality and concentration of diamonds decides directly the life and sharpness of diamond saw.

Metal powder, bond of segment, connect the diamonds together.

---Welding joint, laser-welding is used on most of concrete saw. In order to make sure stability and safety.

When you purchase a concrete saw, it’s very important to let supplier know the hardness or mark of target concrete. Here is a basic rule: A diamond blade used to cut soft and abrasive materials (such as green concrete) should have a harder metal bond so the exposed diamonds are fully utilized before shed away. Conversely, a blade for cutting hard, non-abrasive concrete should have a soft bond to allow for easier erosion of the matrix, which will ensure exposure of new, sharp diamonds when you need them.

Step 3: Cutting concrete at the right time

If you're placing new concrete, you have the option of cutting control joints while the concrete is still green (about 1 to 2 hours after finishing) or the next day after the concrete has hardened. The timing of the cut will dictate the type of blade you select.

Some decorative concrete contractors prefer to cut concrete while it's still green because it minimizes the occurrence of ugly random cracking (especially in warm weather, when concrete hydrates faster) and permits shallower joint depths of an inch or less. However, green concrete will be softer and more abrasive than the same concrete in a cured state. That's because the sand in the mixture hasn't yet bonded to the mortar and it acts as an abrasive. Blade manufacturers offer hard-bonded diamond blades specifically for cutting green concrete.

Step 4: How to choose wet or dry cutting

The essential condition of how to choose wet cutting and dry cutting. If possible, no one wants to spend higher cost, face more dust, at the risk of using dry cutting blade. In fact, we have to choose dry cutting blade in some conditions (such as no water supplying or water forbidden condition). Under normal conditions, the cost of dry cutting blade will be much higher than wet cutting blade because the dry cutting blade should use the steel core with more heat resistance structure or add some high temperature resistance element.
